Every political race has good news and bad news.
The bad news again this year is that people stayed home for the primary elections. About 20% of all Franklin and Highgate voters turned out. Georgia chose a Democratic candidate with only 69 votes.
The bad news is also personal: I battled eruptions, studied the issue of studious reports, built a census and growled at the infidels. It didn't help. I lost my race.
The good news is that I met, worked and campaigned with a fabulous bunch of Franklin and Highgate people.
Hundreds of folks shared their hopes and needs for a better community. Most people invited me into their living rooms and kitchens to chat. Others helped me erect road signs, addressed postcards, and counted and called voters to tempt them to come out and vote.
Anne and I both thank you all for your help, interest, and support. I had a wonderful time and enjoyed a great summer campaign.
There is one other piece of good news. Most Franklin County candidates are good, dedicated people. They want to serve and will work hard for us. You might even see some of these folks espouse the issues you and I talked about this summer.
By the way, I fulfilled my one campaign promise: the dishwasher is in and working.
